Invisible (available now!)
Invisible is a young adult fiction novel about a teenager in high school, named Jacob, who has the ability to see into the supernatural world. He mainly sees the ghosts of people who died tragically, either by their own hand or by the hand of someone else. He feels alone with this painful ability and as a result, he suffers from depression and cuts himself. He doesn't know who he can and cannot trust to tell about his gift because he has experienced severe trauma in the past from the people he trusted the most. Jacob goes through high school feeling invisible and gets tormented by bullies. But everything changes when he tells one girl who has earned his trust his secret, and it may just put his life on the line.
Excerpt from the novel:
I see one as I walk down the hallway. The head is slightly bowed. The hair covers the face. It wears a black dress which seems to haze at the bottom. It does not look up at me as I pass. No one else seems to see it. Only I can. It is invisible to everyone but me. It suddenly looks up. Its face is ashy pale. I cannot see its eyes because they are covered by its greasy bangs, but I can tell it is looking directly at me. I can feel its dark, hollow eyes on me. No one else is looking at me or seems to notice me. Only it notices me. I am invisible to all but it. Someone pushes me into a locker. I look back to find it, but it is gone. It has just vanished into the crowd. The kid who pushed me didn’t even say sorry. It’s like I don’t even exist.
